I’ve always enjoyed Kelsey Grammer. As a kid I used to watch him on Cheers and later as an adult I would watch Frasier re-runs. I just saw one the other day, the Leap Year episode where he sings “Buttons and Bows.” Yes, I am a nerd.
Anyway, Dr. Frasier Crane, aka Kelsey Grammer is headed for divorce. His third. Ouch. Or great (cause he loves marriage, huh?) His wife Camille has filed for divorce.
Now, for those of us that took that huge step and filed for divorce instead of living in an unhappy marriage know that there’s a tipping point that puts you over the edge. Mine was my Grandma’s funeral. As I looked in her casket I didn’t want to have any regrets about how I lived my life. Kelsey Grammer’s wife Camille’s tipping point was Father’s Day.
Evidently, she claims (or her lawyers, or somebody!) that Kelsey did not call his children on Father’s Day.
Hey, I didn’t judge but I did wonder why the kids (who are 5 and
didn’t call their dad on Father’s Day? It is Father’s Day after all not Kid’s Day. If my boys are with me, I politely suggest they call their dad on his birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day, or whatever special day he’s missing with his kids because they are with me.
And I also know as a mom how upsetting it is to not have the dad call at all because he’s living his own life while his kids miss him. So I get both sides of the Grammer divorce saga.
Kelsey Grammer is appearing on Broadway in New York, his wife and kids in L.A. Camille, his wife, suspected that Kelsey is living it up in the NYC without a care in the world while she’s watching two young children. I’m more than certain there were a few fights about that.
Today, Kelsey Grammer writes on his website that he did indeed call his children on Father’s Day and urges his fans not to believe everything they read. He goes on to say:
“Camille and I had been discussing the possibility of a separation for some time before all this happened. She finally decided she should file. I respect her for this decision … I hope to have a great partnership with her in the raising of our children.”
Grammer is certainly a class act with his statements regarding the pending divorce, his wife, and the rumors. He asks fans not to believe everything they read and says, “Gossip and the rumor mill always thrive during times like these…Whatever might be said, I ask that you take the ‘high road.’ I intend to do the same.”
Bravo Mr. Grammer, bravo. Is this truly heartfelt and one classy guy or the work of a fantastic team of public relations people, management, and image consultants? I don’t know, but man would I love to have them in my corner!
Oh, and Mel Gibson, you could learn a thing or two from Grammer…you know what I’m talking about with your racist rants!
