Since you’re reading this article I’m assuming you need to move on after divorce. Or you’re some sort of sadist that gets some weird pleasure from knowing that other people are trying to move past a painful event in their lives. If you’re one of the latter, oh, you’ll get yours buddy, you’ll get yours!
Okay, back to the women who need some good advice…I’m here for you. I have been there. Or maybe I’m still there. Some days are really good, some days aren’t. You may be wondering how the heck you got into t his situation. Though you may be putting up a strong front for the world, you might be suffering inside trying to move on after divorce.
Whether your money is great or in short supply, whether you are happily dating or happily not dating, whether you know you are better off without him or you are pining for the man you planned on being with forever-you are not alone.
It always helps me to know that I’m not alone. That others have been through what I’m currently going through and lived to tell the tale. I had a heartfelt talk with my wonderful, classy, beautiful, smart mother about my divorce and berating myself for not being completely healed from it. She calmly let me know that I was not alone. Moms told me that it took her a long time to “officially” get over my dad after their divorce. Thankfully, they are on good terms, but for almost a decade they weren’t. I told my mom I felt like the pain of losing my best friend, my confidant, my ace boom boom was too much to bear and I would never move on after divorce. I’m going to sum up and give you the advice she gave to me:
- You will have love again and not be scared to love back
- One day you will wake up and know you have successfully moved on when you can wish him (and his new love) blessings and prosperity (instead of revenge and bad credit!)
- You are at peace with yourself, with him, and with the whole divorce mess.
- You can count it a blessing that your ex was once a part of your life and count your marriage and divorce as a valuable lesson in life.
- You no longer fantasize of calling your 2nd cousin *Pookie who knows a guy who knows a guy who could “teach that scumbag ex-husband of yours a good lesson, just say the word.”
*Okay, this last one isn’t my classy mom’s advice, but mine. Granted it still applies right?! Oh, and my 2nd cousin who knows a guy who knows a guy name has been changed to protect his identity…and the “guys” he knows!
