Kim Hess Divorce Guru talks about Thanksgiving
It’s Thanksgiving! Woo-hoo. I’m assuming you knew that. For those of my readers who are outside of the U.S. and Canada, let me give you the low-down.
This is the day where we (Americans) eat turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pie (or sweet potato if you’re African-American) and tell your friends and family why you love them. With all my talk on this blog, my radio show, and my life of gratitude, you would assume that this a wonderful day for me to list what I’m grateful for. It is, though I find myself listing my gratitude almost daily…especially when times are tough.
Okay,here goes…but with a twist. I’m going to do a list for the typical things one should be grateful for and the not so typical things. Happy day and love from your Divorce Guru.
Typical Things
* spending Thanksgiving w/ my boys
* food
* my Grandma Estena’s 7 Up pound cake recipe which includes 2 sticks of butter (before she passed away I asked her if I could substitute applesauce for the butter…she said “no baby, then it’s not my recipe”…duly noted Grandma, duly noted).
* my health
* my loving supportive family
* me being able to help you
* my apartment
* living in an awesome city
* rent paid
Not So Typical
* my cool hip neighbors taking my kids to hang out this morning around the neighborhood (yeah! two hours for mommy to run errands…in silence!)
* the homeless woman at the bus stop saying “Hi, baby” in such a sweet, familiar way like we were family
* the schizophrenic man in the strapless prom dress over his flannel shirt drinking vodka on the sidewalk that stopped cursing at his companion to give me a big toothless “Happy Thanksgiving!” It was so heartfealt and genuine…the love was actually oozing from him!
* being able to have unconditional love for those who make me mad
* High School Musical 3 Dance Mat that my sister gave to my youngest for Christmas/Zac Efron
* sitting in silence
* being easy on myself
* knowing that the world has to give me nothing for me to be joyful
* my ex-husband who is a wonderful father to our sons (and one snazzy dresser)
* that I was born and raised in Mansfield, Ohio
* that I laugh every day (maybe even every hour!)
* that my divorce has awakened me spiritually
* that my oldest son calls me a hippie because I’m “too nice and I have my hair in a hippie way, and I write alot of blogs that are mushy”
