If Homer is pro gay marriage, so am I!

Hello love, KHDG in tha house! (My sons would cringe if they knew I was using that kind of language in my writings…they have told me I am not cool!) Let’s talk about Prop 8.

It sucks. Mosey on over to my Examiner article which I have titled, “Repeal Prop 8: Let gays marry and divorce like us straights!” I was going to use the title “Let homos marry and divorce like us heteros!” but was scared of offending anyone. I’m still learning not to care.

Back on topic. The trial of Proposition 8 starts today. I started reading about it and was hopping mad! One lawyer was quoted in the Los Angeles Times as saying that same sex marriage was a risky and novel “experiment” and was “too new and too rare to know what consequences it may have.”

WTF!! Really? Could someone, anyone explain to me how being of the same sex makes marriage a risky and novel experiment? Let me tell ya, I’ve been happily married, and not so happily married…ALL marriage is a “risky and novel experiment.” An experiment that ends up exploding for over 60 % of us in the chemistry lab we call life.

And marriage being too new and too rare? What kind of bad consequences is this lawyer scared of? Oh, I know. Maybe an outrageous divorce rate for the gay people who get married? Hey, maybe that families will be torn apart, with the kids living with one divorced dad this week, and the other divorced dad the other week? Darn, maybe if gays get married, they will also learn that maybe isn’t supposed to last forever and a meaningful great life can be had if their gay love doesn’t last. Whoo, scaarry stuff. Should I be the one to call this lawyer and tell him his worst fears have already been realized…among his own kind?!!!

This is such a replay of when blacks couldn’t legally marry whites, or whites couldn’t marry Asians, or when Asians couldn’t marry Latinos, or when Jews couldn’t marry Buddhists…you get the picture!

My thoughts on California’s stupid Prop 8? Let gays marry and love like the rest of us. Why? The better question would be why not? Why do we fall in love? Why do we want to share our life with someone? Why do we want a partner to live our life with? Why do we want to wear a gorgeous white dress, wear a diamond tiara, be surrounded by fragrant beautiful flowers, and be ushered down a long petal strewn aisle to the sound of a beautiful string quartet, and feel like a princess? Well, that’s just plain vanity, but the other stuff, you get!

Let the gays marry. And then let over half of the married gays get divorced and be happier. Just saying!
